The Worst Sports When It Comes To Sleep Patterns

Many people don’t often think about sports that affect sleep patterns the most for those taking part.

Afterall, there can be many reasons for this including where you are in the world when you are watching compared to where the event is taking place.

Another reason could be that there we just subconsciously don’t think about it because we’re watching for our own enjoyment.

Though below, we’ve come up with a few sports below that can affect the sleep patterns of those taking part.

Boxing

Many boxing bouts go on past 10 pm local time, due to this being a prime viewing event for those not only watching on television, but also who have made it a night out and have turned up at the venue to watch.

While the sport itself takes a significant toll on the bodies of boxers, the late night can also have an impact, with sleep being a big part of a boxer’s recovery.

Darts

Similarly, darts is another that can go on late into the night and it is a sport that has really increased in popularity over the last few years, especially among spectators.

Again, this is an event that can go until nearly 11pm, though there can be a lot of physical strain on a dart player’s body, having to constantly be in the same position.

Their posture is arguably as important as their sleep patterns as this could cause back problems. As well as getting a good night’s sleep, the right mattress is just as crucial and while there are plenty of beds for sale, having the right one can make all the difference when it comes to their performance.

Snooker

A snooker game arguably has the biggest longevity of any sport and can go on late into the night. This is especially the case if two players are trading frames – this can really take a long time.

Tournaments especially must take their toll on some players. If they finish late on a Monday for example and then play again Wednesday and finish late, no doubt this will have a strenuous effect on their bodies.

Formula 1

Due to the fast-paced and almost ‘jet set’ lifestyle of a Formula 1 driver, because of how they race in a different global location every week, this can have a major impact on their sleep.

Then when you factor in that even before the main event, they have a practice and a qualifying circuit, the rigours of a Formula 1 car on their bodies and the amount of time they are in the car can take its toll. The sheer mental strength to concentrate while driving at incomprehensible speeds as well makes this a sport where getting enough sleep is critical.

Football

Yes, even football has late kick-offs that can sometimes result in a game being played until almost 11 pm if it is a cup fixture that goes to a penalty shootout. With many players back in for training the next day, it means that sleep is key in order to get the right amount of recovery.
